Boston Engagement, Liberty Hotel - Sam & James
Sam & James knew right off the bat they wanted to do their engagement photos at the LIBERTY HOTEL in Boston where they first met. Sam was in town from Florida for work (she’s partly responsible for the iconic tree wall panels in the lobby!) and James was the Food & Beverage Director of the Liberty at the time. This is how she tells it:
“I went out to the bar with my girlfriends and ended up talking to James and I thought we were "networking" since we were in the same industry. I blew him off a couple of times after that until he texted me when I was back in FL that he was coming to FL to visit his grandmother and wanted to hang out...hmm...I realized at that point we were NOT networking! LOL”
They had their first real date there a month later, and (probably due to their wine consumption) they can’t remember much about the night other than having their first kiss in the middle of the street, which they still laugh about to this day. Needless to say, the Liberty is very sentimental to them, and they had tons of insider ideas about spots to take photos since they were so familiar with the space.
They live together a bit South of Boston with their beloved dog Paisley who they wanted in some of the photos, so they decided to make a day trip out of it and rent a room with an epic view of the Boston skyline so we could utilize the space for the shoot. Afterwards they planned on having a romantic dinner at SCAMPO, and crashing there for the night.
The forecast called for rain so we were planning on being inside for most, if not all, of the shoot- but when I arrived it was dry enough to do plenty of photos outside! We started out by the big beautiful wooden door on the side of building (which you could literally miss if you’re not looking for it since it’s adjacent to the ramp to Storrow Drive.) We jumped right into it, and I literally didn’t have to tell them anything, they were just having so much fun with it!
Then we went inside and explored around the lobby, found little nooks for portraits, an epic spiral staircase, and then headed up to their private room where they got changed into something a little more comfy and we got some cute shots with their dog on the big cushy bed.
These two were seriously so hilarious- there was not a dull moment at all! They had me cracking up the whole time, I told them they should write a book about how to act at an engagement session. They just kept the mood light, had fun, shared ideas, went with the flow, and I’m so happy with the love we documented that day. Pro tip: they drank a bit of wine beforehand, which I’m sure loosened things up a bit. I’m seriously considering implementing this into every shoot moving forward- haha!
Wish them the absolute best, and a lifetime of love & happiness!
